Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) is a type of therapy that applies our understanding of how behavior works to real situations. The goal is to increase behaviors that are helpful (e.g., self-regulation, playing with toys, interacting with others) and decrease behaviors that are harmful or affect learning (e.g., aggressive behaviors, tantrums, noncompliance). ABA therapy is an evidence-based treatment for young children who have been diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder (ASD). Typically, children receive ABA therapy for 15 to 40 hours per week. For more information, you can visit the Centers for Disease Control ABA information page.
