Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program

Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) is for low-income households that have a child, senior, or disabled member in the home who qualify for assistance with heating and cooling costs. Regular assistance, as-needed assistance, and assistance in response to crises are offered.

Alabama Weatherization Assistance Program

The Alabama Weatherization Assistance Program is a part of LIHEAP that provides services to reduce qualifying families’ energy costs by providing one-time weatherization services to the home at no cost. These services can include HVAC system repairs, installing insulation, sealing ducts, replacing lightbulbs, etc. Health and safety checks are also performed on the home at no cost.

The Alabama Power Company offers a discounted rate for customers who receive Supplemental Security Income (SSI) or who are verified as Aid for Families with Dependent Children (AFDC).

Customer Charge Waiver

Customer Charge Waiver is offered for people who receive Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) or Supplemental Security Income (SSI). Families in Alabama who are on either of these government programs will not be billed a monthly customer charge on their gas bills if eligibility requirements are met.
